"What You Talking About Mama?"

That's what Jack was saying to me (you know, if he could actually form a sentence yet) yesterday in response to my last post claiming he was uninterested in swimming.  Jody took the boys for a swim and it wasn't long before the phone was ringing at home.  I expected to hear my husband telling me to come get our youngest because he was being uncooperative.  Instead I was simply told to come quick and watch Jack.  So out the door I went and was shocked to walk up and see my baby doing this...
That's right, he was jumping in on his own and completely going under the water.  Over and over again he jumped, from the ladder and the sides of the pool.  He would bob around laughing and failing to heed my warnings of, "Close your mouth, honey."  We haven't mastered the whole it's not a good idea to drink the pool water concept yet, but I was thrilled over his new found bravery.
We also had a few battles with the water wings since Jack, after a few jumps into the pool, now thinks is he is a fully capable swimmer that certainly doesn't need to be slowed down by any stinking flotation device.  He will fearlessly slide the wings off and walk right over to the edge, ready to jump again.  This will likely be my biggest battle this summer.  Well, that and making him understand that he can't eat his grilled cheese sandwich while he swims.
My stress level just kicked up a few notches as I envision handling my two fearless boys in the pool.  They do wonderfully when they have their wings on and I can easily manage rotating between each of them as they bob around, climb the ladder and jump to their heart's desire.  So the wings are a must.  It's my number one rule.  No negotiating that, fellas.  I will tuck a little "spanker" in my pool bag to ward off any arguments from my sometimes stubborn toddlers.
So Jack is a happy little fish too, just like his brother.  And I owe my boy an apology.   He certainly has the ability to enjoy far more than splashing around in our driveway.  He sure proved his Mama wrong.  Bye, bye water hose...Jack is moving on.
