Alike

I enjoy those rare times that someone comments that one of my boys are like me.  The older Sam gets, the more times I hear that he is looking a little more like me.  Occasionally I even hear someone say that Jack looks just like me.  It's quite interesting to hear someone say," Oh my gosh, they look just like you," and then moments later hear someone else say, "Man, they are just like Jody."

Sam is definitely like me in many ways.  I think his personality and tender heart are more like me and we surely share a love for sleeping late.  Jack is all Jody to me.  And while I scratch my head wondering where he gets his silly personality, I am sure he will share his Daddy's wit and comedic timing.  The three all share a love for milk, peanut m and m's, popcorn, animals and farm life.

Sam continues to embrace a love for things that his Daddy loved at his age.  With no encouragement from us, he recently began finding great joy in finding rocks and eggs.  His Daddy had a special rock collection that his parents saved and recently gave to Sam.  Sam's Mema Willa is also a rock enthusiast and she also gave her special rocks to Sam.   He also enjoys finding bird eggs, though these finds are rare.  Jody was an egg lover too and I have heard many stories of him begging to "get up eggs."  Mema Re has told me how she used to draw baskets full of eggs to keep Jody quiet during church.  I've also learned along the way that finding a rock shaped like an egg is the ultimate find.  Jody has helped Sam find a few of these and they both grin with delight over their treasure.

Rocks and eggs, simple little things that make my son so happy.  Jody still seems genuinely thrilled to find these things too.  It seems this love for rocks and eggs is genetic.  And apparently timeless as well.

I remember the same treasure when Jody was little. My house was full of these special rocks and cracked egg shells.
I love seeing it all again.
