That's what I did as I watched this unfold yesterday afternoon. I smiled. And my heart overflowed with love for my sons. Maybe it was affirmation that I must be doing something right as a Mom. Or maybe it was just the joy of witnessing (and catching on camera) such a sweet act by two little boys that I adore. Whatever it was, the moment was precious and perfect and I am so happy I was sitting in my grass on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to see it.
Three little boys, hopped on the gator for a quick ride down the path. Two brothers sat in front. Their cousin climbed in back. And they were off. But that little boy in the back has a brother too and he really, really wanted to ride. So he ran as fast as his little legs would carry him and tried his best to catch up.
But this little boy just wasn't fast enough and he couldn't catch up with the older boys. He didn't scream and he didn't cry. He just stood there, looking a little defeated, surely feeling left out. But then something special happened. That sad little boy looked up and saw this...
His big brother had hopped out of the back of that gator and rushed to his side. He had given up his fun ride to stand with his brother, as if to say, "If you can't ride, Buddy, I won't either."
And soon that little boy had forgotten all about being left out and was smiling again. All because of his exceptionally sweet, amazing big brother named Sam. Brotherly love at its best. And one overjoyed, gracious mother who can't quite figure out what I've done to deserve to share my days with them.

That brotherly love will continue to show up. They will fight. They will argue. They will nearly kill each other...but just let an outsider step in and do something and you see that bond appear. They stick together, they have each others back...even if a parent is the outsider. I have seen it over and over with my boys. It makes you so proud. Love those boys.......
