"Let me think about it"

Sam got into trouble last night for being a little too wild and rough with his little brother.  I sent him to his room...he laughed, walked in his room and turned around and came right back out, grinning from ear to ear.  I told him again...again he refused.  So with a little meaner voice and a pop on the leg, I sent him for the third time.

I went in his room to talk to him about why he was in trouble.  I explained that he cannot lay on Jack or pull Jack around by his arms.  "Do you understand, Sam?"  "Yes, Mommy."

Then I asked why he got a pop on his leg.  He looked at me dumbfounded.  "I don't know," he said. "Sam I told you to go to your room and you didn't.  What should you do when I tell you to do something?"  Again..."I don't know."

"Think about it Sam. What do you do when I tell you to do something?"  I was waiting for the simple response of "Do it."  Instead, my child sat up straight, put his hand on chin like a philosopher and said, "Hmmm, Let me think about it."

Okay, how do you not die laughing when your kid does this?  Seriously...somebody tell me.  I was biting the inside of my gums in a sad attempt to contain myself.  I haven't read it in a parenting book, but I am sure laughing at your child while trying to reprimand them isn't a great idea.

I made Sam show me how he "thinks about it" today so I could take a picture.
