New Song

Those who know me know I love Tim McGraw.  I mean really, really love him (which really, really annoys my husband).  The other night I heard one of his best songs, "Live Like You Were Dying," a song I've heard hundreds of times.  But now that song, one of my favorites, has new meaning for me. With Randy's cancer diagnosis on my mind, it was a reminder to me of how he must be living these days.  Living knowing that he is, indeed, facing death.  Facing death at an age that is too young.  But we are all facing death. Each one of us.  And while Randy knows what will likely cause his death, we are left not knowing.  But one things for sure, none of us are guaranteed another day, another minute, another breath.  And so the words of this song should speak to each of us, not just those with a terminal diagnosis.  A message to live life as it should be lived...loving deeper, speaking sweeter, offering forgiveness, savoring those precious, simple moments.  A message to be the spouse you should be, to be the friend others need, to do the thing you ought to do.  And so if you've never heard it, stop and listen.  And if you've heard it a thousand times, stop and listen again.  Listen to the words.  And live it.  This song is for Randy.  And for all of us.  Live like you were dying...

I think Randy's cancer has made all of us think about life and our life choices. You wake up and you never consider that today everything could change. What you wrote is so sweet and so true.
