Loving the Lovey

I have tried, and failed, many, many times to get both of my boys to have some kind of "lovey."  I read in many books that it would help them sleep so I jumped on the lovey band wagon from the beginning of motherhood.  I spent a fortune on small and large stuffed animals, Little Giraffe blankets and the soft little animal "mats" they could lay on or snuggle with.  I fed them with the lovey nearby, tucked it beside them for naps and took it along for rides in the car. And Sam never showed any interest in my snugly gifts for him.  He has no object of affection or attachment that he must take with him wherever he goes...other than his Mommy, of course.  Jack followed right in his footsteps and showed no need for a lovey from the get go.  So I chalked all my purchases up to room accessories and trinkets to save for their kids one day.  Imagine my surprise and excitement when I discovered Jack has developed an affection for his lamb lovey over the past few weeks.  This same lamb has laid in his crib for 18 months now and I have placed his sweet, tiny sleeping body on it since we brought him home from the hospital. But now he snuggles with it, with his little arms wrapped tightly around it. And I love it.  Maybe he'll start dragging it around and insisting the lamb accompany us on every errand and maybe then I'll regret my dire need for my boys to have a special lovey to carry through life.  Maybe not.  All I know is that today, I love the look of my littlest one curled up on that soft, sweet lamb.

Jody and Joseph never had a lovey, but Chad did. It was a blanket and he carried it EVERYWHERE. I even believe a cut piece of the blanket even went to Kindergarten with him.

Chad and Brad had a lovey. They are up for safe keeping now, but I can't wait to bring them out for my grandchildren. There's nothing as sweet as a lovey wrapped around your child or vise versa.
